Aqua Boa Amazon Lodge

Fishing the Agua Boa River offers the fly fisherman a trip that they will never forget. It is not just a fishing experience, casting a fly to strange and exotic fish in these pristine waters. They are, in our opinion, one of the fiercest freshwater fish you can catch on a fly-rod. Unlike most other Amazon fishing destinations, the beautifully clear waters of the Agua Boa, combined with the light sandy bottom, allow sight fishing to cruising Peacock Bass and Arowana at times. When the river has not dropped, anglers will spend less time in the main river channel and will instead focus upon the lagoons that are attached to the river and literally teeming with fish.

The Lodge

Agua Boa Amazon is a fly-fishing-only lodge. The large number of peacock bass make this trip mind-boggling. The Lodge is situated on a high bank, overlooking the Agua Boa River, which is one of the 1,000 plus tributaries feeding the mighty Amazon River. The Lodge is only accessible by plane and is 200 miles northwest of Manaus, Brazil.

Fly Fishing aqua boa river

From its source to the Rio Branco, the Agua Boa is approximately 150 miles long. Many lagoons and oxbow lakes, varying in size from two to 25 acres, are located along the Agua Boa.
When the water is slightly higher, the lodge's guides will pole the boat through the shallow creeks that lead off of the main river into the connecting lakes. When the waters are lower, a walk of no more than a quarter of a mile may be required to reach the fishing. Due to the unusual clarity of the many lakes and lagoons, this is the best fly fishing trip for peacock bass. Land 20 to 100+ peacock bass per day - some will be huge. The giant reserve area boasts birds, wildlife, very few people, no mosquitoes. Guided two anglers per boat. Very experienced guides who paddle and pole boats. Additional boats are kept on 12 or more lakes, a short hike away.
